About Crate and how we build our information

Last updated:

Crate helps businesses import into, trade in and pack for the UAE market. We publish free tools and guides so a trader can see the registration route, certificates, duty and packaging options for a product before committing money.

What Crate is — and is not

  • Import — tools and guides for product registration, certificates, duty and labels.
  • Trade — market opportunities, products and trading-company suppliers.
  • Packaging — packing and repacking calculators and packaging suppliers, factories and companies.
  • Crate is independent. It is not a government body, is not endorsed by one, and does not give legal or customs advice.

Methodology: how a guide or tool is built

  • Official first. Portals, fees, certificates and rules are taken from the authorities' own pages: Dubai Municipality (Montaji and FIRS), the Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (ECAS, EQM, halal), the Ministry of Climate Change and Environment (ZAD), the Abu Dhabi Agriculture and Food Safety Authority, the Emirates Drug Establishment, and the Federal Tax Authority (excise, Cabinet Decision 197/2025).
  • Labelled by strength. Official figures are shown as official. Figures that come from consultants or certification bodies are labelled "reported". Where we could not confirm a rate, such as a customs exemption for an exact tariff line, we say "confirm the line" instead of guessing.
  • Rules, not guesses. The checkers apply fixed rules, so the same input always gives the same result. AI is used only to read text from a label photo; the verdict comes from the rules.
  • Dated. Every guide and tool shows when it was last reviewed, and lists its sources.
  • One source of truth. Import guides are generated from the same engines as the tools, so a guide cannot contradict a tool.

Our data sources

  • Directories: the public commercial registry of Dubai.
  • Market signals: public product listings on Noon, Amazon.ae, Carrefour and Lulu, and Google Trends.
  • Standards and fees: the authorities listed above, cited on each page.

Corrections

Rules and fees change. If you find something out of date or wrong, email uae@crate.ae with the page link and, if you can, the official source. We review it and update the page and its review date. Businesses listed in our directories can ask for a correction or removal the same way.

For search engines and AI assistants

Our public pages are open to search and AI crawlers. A machine-readable summary is at /llms.txt and a fuller fact sheet at /llms-full.txt; the sitemap is at /sitemap.xml and an RSS feed at /rss.xml. You are welcome to cite our pages with attribution and a link.
